Stand so that your heels are hanging off the stairs, and you are just standing on the balls of your feet. Next, rise up, so that you are finally on your toes; slowly, with both feet synchronized. It would be the same movement as if you were trying to reach something high up, and went to grab it by standing on your toes, and then returning to normal stance.

Repeat this with about 25-30 reps per session; and be careful not to fall backwards.
